This is an excerpt from Chris’s newsletter:
We operate by a simple process of discipleship that leads to evangelism which then multiplies! In other words: “loving God and loving others so they love God and so on…” We love God by seeking a relationship with Him through prayer, bible study, fellowship, and obedience. We love others as we are faithful in God’s family, the church, and seek to lead others into a relationship with God by sharing the gospel, that heaven truly is a free gift through Jesus Christ! Not everyone who hears the gospel professes faith, and not everyone who professes faith becomes a disciple, but as we shared the gospel this past month, we saw three people make professions of faith in Jesus Christ. But this is only the beginning of a relationship with God. A disciple of Jesus Christ will joyfully obey His command to be baptized and eagerly seek to evangelize the lost and nurture the growth of those who receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Wasn’t this the example of the LORD Jesus himself!? After he was baptized by John, he immediately went into the wilderness, where He was tempted by Satan, and then immediately afterward He began to preach and called His disciples to begin following Him!
Rebecca reminds me of Christ’s example! Just two weeks ago Rebecca was baptized at our church, proclaiming her commitment as a disciple of the LORD Jesus, but this is not just a religious ritual to her. It is truly symbolic of her desire to follow Christ! By God’s grace we have seen Rebecca dramatically freed from the bondage of addiction and homelessness and transformed into a servant of God! Not only does she faithfully attend Sunday services which is rare these days, she seeks to share the gospel at Mission Norman, and lead several different bible studies for the homeless, apartment kids, and women seeking to overcome addictions at the Oxford house. Praise God for His glorious grace!!
