BMAO Missionary Nathan Brewer
What an exciting month April was! We kicked it off in the best way possible by celebrating and worshiping our risen king. That day didn’t need anything else for it to be eternally significant and exciting. But as an added bonus, we gathered for the first time on a Sunday morning that day in our new facility! We had nearly 60 people worship with us that day. We have since had four services and have learned so much. We are intentionally taking time over the next 6 months or so to get a feel for Sunday morning and how we need to adjust to welcome more people in that God brings to us.
This month, we held our first Grace Harbor Kids Ministry Training. This is an opportunity for us to clearly communicate our vision and expectations for those who serve in this area. We are not merely a place for parents to drop their kids off and outsource their children’s’ discipleship. We are committed to “partnering with parents to make disciples through Jesus-centered, interactive teaching.” We trained over a dozen leaders at this first meeting and plan to hold another in June!
We also were met with a few challenges as far as our Community Groups go. As I shared last month, we sent out and launched a second Community Group in another part of OKC. I use the word “challenges”, but don’t want it to come across sounding dire or extreme. Sometimes, challenges can be a good thing. We simply realized that our second group needed some continued investment and strengthening. We can compare it to a mother sending her child out to explore or push whats comfortable for the first time- definitely a good thing, but not without some continued guidance. Thankfully, all of the leaders we have in place for these groups are completely and sufficiently capable of doing what we have sent them to do. We just realized that vision can take time to catch, and so we have committed to joining our two groups together two nights a month for intentional community and training. We hope to see this group fully autonomous but the end of Summer, as well as another group up and running!
We are praying now for three different mission teams that will travel to OKC this Summer to work and serve in our community with us. Join us!
